Steps of getting started at CiTR & Discorder…

- Take a tour. Tours are every weekday at 12pm at the station.
- Become a member. Make a DJLand account and pay the membership fee.
- Get trained.
- Reach out to CiTR staff to realize your radio & magazine dreams (contact info below…)

Radio
CiTR is a radio station! So you can host a radio show!
Radio is 24/7, 365 days a year and our grid has shows that cover everything from local news, to pop, to jazz, to accessibility issues, to metal, and pretty much everything in between! Get a show and talk about whatever you want, as long as you care about it.
We broadcast in 9 different languages and train you on how to do everything! No experience necessary!
Host a show!
Here are the steps to getting a show…
- Get trained. Sign up for 1.Production and 2.Show Host training to virtually learn the basics of audio editing and making radio! Click here for all sign ups and manuals!
- Contribute to 2 episodes of the radio collective of your choice.
- Host a “fill in” and practice picking music, pacing your show, hosting on air, and just making radio.
- Pitch your show to the Programming Manager.
- Submit a demo of your show to get feedback.
- Host a frickin’ show!
Join a collective!
Our radio collectives are shows hosted by a group of volunteers. You can practice all the steps that go into making a radio show with the support of volunteers with similar interests and passions

We get 1 bin of physical music submissions a week… plus digital submissions!
Review music!
Our music library is essentially an archive of niche local music going back to the 1980s with almost 60,000 CDs, 11,000 LPs, 4,500 7”s, and 500 cassettes
You can review all the music that comes in and help decide what would be a good fit for our programmers and what gets added to our library
Curate playlists!
We have a lot of radio shows (and could always use more) but sometimes we just have to air a playlist made by volunteers
It can be a playlist of whatever you want, as long as you think it’s good music

Broadcasting from the unceded, ancestral, and traditional land of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking Musqueam people, CiTR 101.9FM is the student radio voice of the University of British Columbia
CiTR & Discorder exists to
- Provide community access to media opportunities and space for underrepresented voices,
- Create alternative and locally-based content, and
- Empower UBC students and community members through training and participation in the media.
Student Executive!
CiTR & Discorder is the only student-run campus radio station in Canada! The Student Executive is a group of dedicated UBC students who help with station governance and student & community outreach. It’s a great opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at station events, projects, and day-to-day operations
